Employment Subject to Sastisfactory References
Hello,
I have been working at a place for in excess 2 months. my offer was conditional on satisfactory references being received. I suspect one employer will not give me a good reference, can the company terminate my employment?

Why did you give them a reference you suspected wouldn't be satisfactory?
However, don't panic, as if (as you imply) there are more than this reference, all will be taken into account. Also, 2 months seems a long time - are you sure they haven't already received the references?

As I said, not necessarily. You don't know what the response will be - companies are generally loathe to say anything bad in case there's some come-back.
That is very bad; there IS a difference between personal & professional references and they shouldn't be mixed up. The query should have directed specifically to the named person, not the company-in-general. Perhaps you should use their home address in future, I always do.
Good luck, anyway.

references have to be factual and you can take a company to tribunal if they give you a bad one that is untrue - they can sack you yes as most jobs are on probation and you dont have work rights for one year apart from sex and race discrimination. most places want two employment references so that doesnt surprise me about the personal one
