HOW DOES THIS WORK

at my work people ask for adays holiday coz they have been out the nite before-if the answers no they call in sick. I ask for aday off becoz a very close family member is having an op-my granddad- told no but if i phone in sick i will get a written warning plz help

no they dont get nothing -the day off would be a holiday

But how do people who want a holiday after a night out do it. Do they just ring in the next morning?

they ask for the day off in advance if at the time they are told no -then on th day in question they phone in sick-I was trying to get a day off the right way -obviously thats not the way to do it ?

Surely if they are abusing the system that way they shouls be getting warnings too?
have you explianed the reason behind why you want the day off? They are being quite unresonable I think, to turn down your request. Perhaps you could show you are being genuine by offering to make up time taken off or taking some unpaid leave?

You should point out to your boss what others are doing. I agree, it does sound very unfair, although you shouldn't take a sick day off if holidays are refused.
