Job For A 13 Year Old.

Hey im a 13 year old who is looking for a job that doesnt require me to talk to much because im quite shy and not very confident when it comes to talking to people i dont know. Ive done a paper round before for about a year and then got tired of it! I got told about things like washing up and things like that. I wouldnt mind if it was after school or on the weekend! Please can someone give me any ideas????

Our Eldest, Now 17 sound very much like you, She was painfully shy to such an extent she wouldn't even speak to some family members!
She got a job (probibly when she was 14) in a hairdressers, sweeping up, maiking teas/coffees and it did her cofidence the world of good! Cant shut her up now.....Just an idea!

Hi Ellie, I hate to say this but as far as I know most jobs for 13 year olds do involve some interaction with the public. The thing is, as much as you may feel like shying away from this, if you could force yourself to go for it anyway, it will do your confidence the power of good.

you'll need a work permit first - apply at your local councils website

TBH you will need to get rid of the 'I got tired of it' attitude as you may well find yourself doing a job far worse than delivering papers - washing up is a hideous job !

Ask at your local: hotels, stables, hair salon, car washing place or even get a sponge and bucket and go round peoples doors offering to wash cars. Knock on peoples doors and see if they want gardening done, windows washed etc etc

Remember too, that the National Minimum Wage does not apply to under 16's

Eddie .... it was my brothers paperound, and i went with him and helped with it until i became 13 where i took it over completely.

that doesn't make it all right Ellie, but you are now old enough for the paperround. The rules about working for someone your age are very strict, so you only have a very limited amount of work you can do. you are more likely to get a Saturday job I would think, helping out, which won't affect your school hours in the week.
