i went to a careers fair today and was told that when applying to work in a tv studio i had to send out copies of my showreel (camera work that i have done) to different companies. does anybody know how long this showreel should be? thanks :p

You showreel should contain all the best bits of your work.

If you only have a couple of things and they aren't too long, u cud put the whole production on, otherwise if you have a lot of work, clips of each will do.

Another thought on this is to create your own website and upload your productions onto this.  This gives the viewer the option of which ones he wishes to view and for how long.  It also saves you time and money in sending out showreels too.

Most companies would rather look at websites nowadays, as they are easily accessible, rather than preparing the hardware of video or dvd players ready for viewing.

When you send out applications or cvs, remember to put your website address on and state in your cover letter that all of your work can be viewed on your website.

If you are unable to create a website yourself, get someone to do it for you.  It could prove very beneficial in the long run.
