Apprenticeship terms and conditions?
2 Answers
Hi, I recently accepted an apprenticeship offer at a parts factors however have not signed any contract yet, I start working there on the 22nd of august. Also, I am currently going through the process of applying for another better apprenticeship with BMW which would suit me much better. I initially applied for the BMW apprenticeship months ago and have only just been told there is a position available (which I really want.). I have been told that I cant get an interview for BMW until at least the 18th (4 days before parts factors apprenticeship due to start). What I want to know is, are there any set guidelines of an apprenticeship which says that I can leave within the first however many months with short notice? I really don't know what to do, can anyone direct me to a website which has details of set apprenticeship rules?

Hopefully you will get some good links on this thread but where I work we take engineering apprentices and they just get a contract of employment like anyone else - in other words they only have to give the same notice as any other employee. You are in a difficult situation as I'm sure the BMW one is far more attractive and a better basis for your future.
When you have the interview with BMW I would tell them your situation and hopefully if they want to take you on they will tell you before your start date. You would just then have to tell the other company you werent starting. Think of yourself there will be loads of people who drop out of these things and I wouldnt worry about the other company, just go with the best option if you get the choice.
