Hi,

Was signed off sick from work last Wednesday for 2 weeks although my next shift wasn't due to start until the following day. I guess I'm due back Wednesday week. Reason I want to confirm is I'm booking a hospital appointment for Thursday week which'd be difficult as I'd be working the night before & that night.

Any way round not working the Wednesday night ?

Thanks

you'd need to speak to your work, explain the sit and ask to take it as holiday or unpaid leave, or go back to the docs and get another sick note on the weds am
i assume you work monday to friday then? can you maybe swap with someone for a weekend shift?
if you ask doc he will probably be ok giving you another note to cover Wed...may even do it if you just phone and collect later..

That's what I thought, mccfluff. I do have holiday I can take but resent doing that. Did that when I had an injection & got no "thanks" (figuratively speaking) for that. And don't really want more sick leave as looks like I won't get paid & my job could be on the line anyway.

Thanks though.

No dotty, I work 365/24/7. And my opposite number & I have swapped a load of dates in December already.
I am seeing doc again on the Tuesday, for more painkillers. But, as I say, not keen on more sick leave.

I just think it's bit ironic that if the 2 weeks off had started when I was actually due to work, I wouldn't have this "problem". But the doc caught me out, signing me off - wasn't expecting it - & I'm not devious enough to have suggested she do it from the next day. Would've solved a LOT of probs !
do you get on with your employers? could you do as dotty says and swap a shift with someone?
sorry, your second post wasn't there

Well, had an e-mail from my boss saying I'm not due back 'til Thursday. Asked him was he sure, & he confirmed. So mine's not to question why, but problem solved. 'Cos there apparently wasn't a problem to start with ! Hey-ho ...
