One of mine wrote that Durkheim's greatest achivement was his suicide.
Another wrote that Mao Zedong took care of the ladles.
Mind boggling.
When I was about 8 I did some work on Chaucer's Canterbury tales and wrote 'they went to various places and revealed themselves to one another. It was pinned on the classroom wall on parents evening.
Chairman Mao did have an eye for the ladies. I never knew he kept an eye on the kitchen gear too.

I still remember my domestic science teacher sniggering (I didn't know why) when I wrote that you have to keep an eye on the storage of flour, as you can get orgasms in it.

I believe the Stalin quote, not sure I believe the others, especially the "valium" one. It has the same ring of authenticity about it as Francis Drake "circumcising the world with a ten-foot clipper", which I am damn sure IS made up :-)
Another possibility is that it's actually someone being rather clever (!)
Or Master Bates and Seaman Stains from Pugwash.
The Pugwash names of course are an urban legend...
now now, em, the Guardian had to pay damages for repeating the myth about Seaman Staines
