Hi Monodge - I used to work at E&Y just off London Wall many moons again and sadly to say I hated it!!  Mind you I was stuck in the Tax and Capital Allowances team and they are DEAD boring!!!  I was a PA.  The girls were great but the job and industry I found v.boring!  Although I'm sure you'll have great fun - good luck!!

ill be working in the Dublin office so hopefully it will be better!

thanks anyway!!

i worked in the Reading office in audit for a summer internship. they offered me a job and i nearly took it - although I didn't enjoy the work at all, the working environment and the people were brilliant, the support while you were studying looked great, there were plenty of other young graduates in the same boat as you, and the benefits package was pretty good too.  decided in the end though that it wasn't what i wanted. But accountancy is at least a stable profession, if not the most exciting, and getting a professional qualification has got to be good, even if you don't stay in the area afterwards.  Had a great posh summer ball too!
looking at the answers there it seems a great company to work for if u are interested in the monotonuos workload

are u an accoutant or auditor, twiglet4frog?

id say there are very few jobs that one could actually regard as "exciting"

From an outsiders point of view, someone having Ernst & Young on their CV is a good sign that they have been well trained and developed in their field.

All jobs are monotonouis after a while, companies like E&Y should present you with challenges and progress - if not make sure you ask for them.

Good luck & learn from the experience.

my friend is and he says its boring, the two posters here were in that field and thought it boring and so i am going by what i know ok,

One of my closest friends worked for E&Y in the late 1980s.  She was studying to get her CPA (similar to a Chartered Accountant in the UK, I think) and by regulation had to work at a public accounting firm for two years.

She didn't like the dress code - mandatory blue, grey or black suit every day - or some of the office politics.  But those were probably limited to the office she worked in (Detroit).  Overall, she was grateful for the training and experience she had at E&Y.  And to this day, she has stayed in touch with a lot of her former co-workers from that office, so it seems like there's at least a feeling of comraderie there.

i accepted their offer for employment after doing the internship program. it was the best 6 weeks i have done and worked alongside many big name clients, actually doing real work with partners. You get all the training buy you will get thrown in at the deep end most likely. Enjoy it. The best thing about EY is that if it is not for you they will go out of their way to help you find a career which is using their contacts.
