The market research company I work for takes people on who do that if they're suitable and there is any work for them. Experience isn't necessary because you often find experienced market researchers have 'their way' of doing things and that isn't always a good thing.
By the way everyone, I'm not a researcher, just admin!
Apart from contacting the above, a good way is to go up to someone with a clipboard and ask for one of their thankyou notes - it will have contact details of the company they are working for that day, and obviously that company works in your local area!
A company called MIllward Brown does a very good training, but their work is often described as repetetive and boring. Once you are trained, you can offer your services to any of hundreds of market research companies, and eventually specialise in a area of interest to you - for example, some people do only medical or automotive surveys.
It's not as easy as it looks, but if you like meeting people and don't like going to the same place to work every day, give it a go.
