Hi, after 3 years at university I achieved my degree in July and have been job hunting ever since. I have recently been working with a local videographer who has been training me up in order to take me on with him. However he has said he cannot afford to pay me much. Do the government offer grants to employers looking to hire new staff and expand their business, or do they offer grants to people looking to break into this industry to buy their own equipment? any help is much appreciated.

have a word with the job centre or benefits agency about any schemes. I say that cos an hour ago i just had a door to door seller that explained he was unemployed but the governement was offering to pay him a half wage to take a job if he found a job that was at least part time or low pay/commision based. if he didnt sell enough he was guarenteed of income support and if he earnt a lot over a period of time then its then they would reduce his income support without effecting other benefits until it was shown he was fully employed for a longer period of time. Have a word about schemes like this, u might get something to top up your wage and might be enough to get plenty of experience under u to then try for a full time job as soon as u can, and experience counts more than qualifications in a lot of professions these days
