I went into a local shop today to buy 4 tickets for our local panto. The tickets were £4 each. Teenager looked puzzled. I asked what was wrong. She said what are four times £4? I had to tell her. An assistant nearby rolled her eyes and muttered something.
How do they get the jobs. Do they not have to do a test or something?
Afterwards I felt sorry I didn't help her more. I could have said, what is 4 and 4. Then what is 8and 8. And explained about breaking sums down into easier pieces.
Yes Anne, we are a smallish town and each year a different shop takes on the job of selling the tickets. So next Friday I will be taking 3 youngest grandchildren to a good session of "Oh no it's not"
