Not having any children, I had no idea this was still going on.

When I went to secondary school, the school (as did all the schools in the town) had an arrangement with a local clothes shop who had the sole rights to sell the school’s uniform (blazers, ties, gym kit etc). Even at the age of 11, I knew that this arrangement involved an illegal kick-back to the school for giving them the exclusive rights (otherwise why not allow any shop to sell the stuff).

Apg, ignoring your curious rant, the link you put up is from Asda - clothing that, as has been explained to you, is not acceptable in schools that require ‘uniform’ styles and dedicated badges/markings. Is that really so difficult to understand?
AuntPG. Thank you for posting naff, non-complient links to JUNIOR hats when my grandson in question is 15, over 6 feet tall and £125 is the wholesale price (I think they are about £215 individually.

But thank you for telling me my grandson's school policy and your knowledge of cricket seems unbounding.

Also I assume your grandaughters riding lessons have nothing to do with school - but Cricket is.

Also, also, why are you trying to pick an argument when there really isn't one. This is a "chat" (moreover a moan) about school uniform.

I have just looked at riding hats. Found one for over a £1000. I assume you have bought this one eh? What's the problem?
Naomi -'curious rant' oh do stop it woman for goodness sake I really don't know what you think you are achieving by these jabs, you do it with most people, but all its resulting in is you looking a bit sad and needy.
:o)
No Leon I have not bought a 4 year old a competition riding hat for £1000. I've bought her an appropriate kite marked hat and a body protector. What this has got to do with school uniforms, however, beats me. You really do exaggerate, don't you?
They all want stuff branded i think forget about it just have white polo and trousers / short / skirt its not hard surely then everyone can get clothes from asda simple

Roadman, People have mentioned that the school often requires certain articles to have the school logo on, and people buy the clothes with the logo on at an inflated price. Most schools however, offer the logos separately and the parents can sew them on. I'm not sure how many schools offer this service but all the state schools I
've had anything to do with have offered this.
The school at which my grandchildren will begin this coming term has a uniform policy even with it's PE kit. I incorrectly stated that the tops were one red and one blue. The polo tops are in fact of a specific make and design, predominantly black with a red sash down either side, tapering toward the waist. This sash has yellow piping bordering it. The socks are similar, as are the shorts, though if they prefer, the girls can wear the skorts. Trainers can be worn, but must be predominantly black or white and must not be branded. This uniform is available at just 3 outlets.
Forgot to mention that, yes, the school logo is on both the polo shirts and the shorts/skorts.

I would really like to see a breakdown of the costs the Childrens society declare as an average uniform for a Primary school child at
£ 315. They have obviously picked the most expensive off the shelf items, and coupled them with the items that have to be bought from a school supplier -all, I guess, for Political reasons.
They carried out a survey last year and asked around a thousand parents.

christ, i just looked at the website for the school supplier for the secondary school. i just picked the middle sizes of everything and the trousers, blazer, and pe kit (no shoes or anything such as blouses/football shorts that can be bought in the supermarket) and it came to about £150. That's just 1 set - probably going to need at least 2 sets. looks like ill be buying second hand or getting my protesting boots on. perhaps the 300 includes shoes and more than 1 of everything apg?
Yeah they should just give the patches out for free and even offer to put them on the kit these kids will use these uniforms what for a few months pointless them being expensive it is gentrification and the one who cant afford the kit will get picked on
I spent just under £300 on a full kit with school badges and non-badged items. The badged stuff had a 10% discount from the uniform shop that seems to cater for the whole of Croydon. The plain stuff I got from M&S and Sports Direct.
or people *** too proud and stupid to buy second hand?
sorry that word was who're but i forgot the apostrophe lol
I dont mind second hand but after the season a PE kit can be a bit grotty and also maybe hard to find kids are sticky arent they
tigger - is it Old Palace of John Whitgift?
