I have an interview on Tuesday for a job within a university that I am desperate to get. I have done some homework and found out there will be 3 interviewers and that they are pretty easy going people. The thing is I am cr@p at interviews and get really nervous and clam up. Any tips would be gratefully received. Many thanks in advance.

There are some questions that regularly come up in interviews.

If there are any "trouble spots" in your career path - like the fact that you changed your degree or career direction then think about what you would say to an interviewer about these: if you haven't prepared - they will ask!

Remember when preparing your answers to these interview questions that the more specific you are the better. Rather than saying: "I have excellent computer skills" say "I have used computers regularly since my first year at college/university and I am confident with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access."

The Questions ....

1. what are your career goals?

2. How many sick days have you taken in the past two years?

3. Do you have any hobbies?

4. Why do you want this job?

5. Tell me about yourself.

6. What did you like most or like least about your last job?

7. Do you have any questions?

8. They may also ask you specific questions that relate to equipment or procedures you would use on the job. This is a way of determining your overall knowledge and skills.

9. Why did you decide to get this degree and attend this university?

10. What would make someone successful in our business?

11. What motivates you in a job and in your personal life?

12. What role do you take in a group situation? Give examples.

13. What do you know about our company?

14. How have you developed your interpersonal skills?

15. The dreaded one - What are your strengths and weaknesses! Please do not say 'I dont have any weaknesses'.. think of something but turn it into positive!!

There's nothing wrong with admitting you're nervous. You'll probably find that many interviewers are equally as nervous as you! As far as clamming up goes, you could ask them to repeat the question to get you back on track or to expand on what they mean to give you a starter. If water is on offer, take it to stop your mouth drying up. Try some relaxation techniques before you go into the interview - practice at home, things like deep, slow breathing, imagery, ie imagine your in a really restful place, like on a warm sandy beach with the sun beating down and the waves lapping at your feet, I'll have to stop now as I'm going to fall asleep! Good luck!

If you've done your home work I'm sure you'll be fine, I know what its like I'm always rubbish at interviews, but I just try to get through it, ask them to repeat a question if your unsure!

Good luck!
