Think it was 1967
They still have it in Bucks, Berks and other parts of the South of England. The last exam in that case was last October until they are issued again this Sept., October.
I have lived in Bucks my entire life (27 now) and had never heard of the 11 plus exam till about a month ago when it came up in a quiz... no one my age or younger that i know has ever done an 11 plus exam in bucks.

I am intrigued if mrbatfink was privately educated? Not sure how you would have moved to secondary school with out taking it? Every year there is much handwring about the eleven plus and two years ago it was majorly overhauled, but still a bone of contention in the south of the county!

My sixth form daughter and year 10 son both had to take it ( I could have chosen to withdraw them if I really wanted!) to be selected for secondary education placement. I beleive there is a fab comprehensive school near Waddeson tho'.

The Bucks paper is based an verbal reasoning predominantly, whilst the berkshire one has a paper for maths, verbal and non verbal resoning. Which is why some parents put kids in for exams in both counties.

Still exists on the Wirral.
Oh and 1955 - I took mine in 1973!
