Why does weatherspoon pubs around the uk restrict the use of children in their pubs to only allow them to eat a meal but after that they arn't allowed back in for just an ordanary drink. Thanks, retailman

As JammieDodger has indicated, Wetherspoon's pubs do not hold Children's Certificates. The ease with which these can be obtained varies greatly throughout the country. In some areas, they're granted to any pub which the local authority deems to be suitable for children to be in. In other areas, however, a Children's Certificate will only be granted where a pub undertakes expensive alterations, such as installing low-level urinals.
J D Wetherspoon plc have taken the decision not to apply for any Children's Certificates because they believe that the presence of children in their pubs (other than in designated family dining areas) changes the atmosphere to the detriment of other customers.
This is taken from the 'Families' link on their website:
"We have now introduced a dedicated family dining area into most of our pubs.
This means that children will be allowed to dine with adults, while sitting in this dedicated area.
In the vast majority of our pubs, this facility is available from opening time until 6pm, with last orders being at 5pm.
Children and their adult companions are welcome when dining only.
We believe that this added facility will be attractive to a great number of our customers who have previously been unable to dine with their children in our pubs. Because it is limited to meal times only, within a restricted area and time of day, we do not believe that it will alter greatly the atmosphere of our pubs.
The bar area will remain children-free.
Highchairs, bottle-warming and nappy-changing facilities are available.
We hope, if you do have children, that you will find this facility appealing; if you don�t have children, that you see no difference to your Wetherspoon pub."
