Is there an open university course I can take to learn electrician skills?

I think it would be useful to gain a trade on top of my full time job to get a little bit of extra cash by helping friends and family and being able to do the work for myself.

I was thinking about taking a course to become a qualified electrician but dont know where to start. Can anyone tell me if it is the sort of thing I would be able to do at my own pace at home?

You'll need to contact a local college - there may well be evening courses.
