learning support assistants

I want to start back to work,but with two small children i would like to work term time only. I keep seeing vacancies for Learning support assistants in schools. Can any one tell what qualifications/experience I would need to apply for a post like that?thanks

i started as a learning support auxiliary ( what we are known as up here ) 2 years ago. i have no qualifications but having 2 teenage daughters gave me the experience they were looking for. i do get to go on courses within my job and learn alot. it is a very rewarding job and if you have no qualifications dont let it put you off applyng. go for it.

I have previously worked as a Learning Support Assistant, there are generally no firm qualifications needed, although you obviously need to have a fairly good standard of English and Maths (but have known other LSA's to get by without these). Patience and understanding are generally needed as you will be working possibly 1:1 with Statemented children who find lessons difficult for whatever reason, you also need to be able to get tough with them too as they can and will try work avoidance tactics. The next time you see a vacancy, go for it, the worst that can happen is they say no, but at least you will find out what they want that you haven't got and then try again - Good luck, it is a very rewarding job.
