Is gaining the ECDL certificate really important nowadays? I have been in my present job for 16 years but am thinking of a change. Do employers really ask for this?

The local authority I work for insists on all administrative staff having ECDL as a minimum qualification, and will train new staff up to standard if they haven't already got it.

However, I took IBT 3 (I think it's called Advanced CLAIT these days) before I applied for my job, and that has exempted me from the ECDL requirement. Actually, I would have refused to take ECDL, because IBT3 surpasses it - I can do much more than my colleagues who have the former.
I am working my way through ECDL at present, but there is now a new qualification out called ITQ. The ECDL modules go towards it and I think there is just one or two extra modules to make it an ITQ. Best to enquire and make sure that you go for the most up to date qualification -if you go for any at all! Good Luck :-)
I'm interested in Advanced ECDL but not sure how it compares with a Microsoft level couse like MOUS
