I know this may sound stupid to you, but I am useless in fractions.

My daughter has a fraction problem and I could not solve it.

To share 4 cakes between 6 people

How do you work out the above answer?

Is there a website that I could go on and learn fractions?
Thank you

share the cake (divide the cake)
between 6 people 4 dive by 6 is 0.6
to work out the fraction you use the last number from tenths
so the fraction is
6 3
10 or 5
probabally doesn't help
Sorry maggie but your answer is wrong.

4/6 = 2/3 so each person gets two thirds of a cake.

ie, cut each cake into 3 equal parts and give 2 pieces to each person.
If it's got coconut in, then count me out. Just share it between the other five. But thanks, anyway.
4 cakes for 6 people.

just put 4 over the 6 = 4/6

if they want a simple answer then see if you can divide it down a bit ie divide number at top and bottom by 2 to make 2/3

4/6 = 2/3 = 8/12 = 16/24 they are all the same number but the simple answer is 2/3 (you can see this because 4 cakes for 6 people is same as 2 cakes for 3 people)

Hi

Thanks everyone.

I showed the replies to my daughter and she understands it now.

She said thank you.
Who's eating my cakes? Did you ask first? NO. Now step away from my cakes, and get your own.
you have to divide 4 cakes in 6 people so 4 will be numerator and 6 will be denominator i.e 4/6
now 4/6 is 2/3
so divide each cake in three equal parts and give two to each Media URL: http://math.tutorvista.com/number-system/fractions.html
