What qualifications do I require if I wanted to train as a mid-wife. I work in the hospital environment already in the Radiography department and I have a level 3 NVQ in diagnostic and therapuetic support. I would not be able to stop work and study full time, it would need to be alongside part time work. Can anyone help please?

If the rules are still the same, I think you have to qualify as a registered general nurse before taking specialist midwife training.

Nursing training is full-time, degree level and you would be expected to work shift patterns as any other nurse. I believe you get some sort of training wage.

Might be worth talking to your manager and seeing if he or she can guide you to the right people for advice. From what I hear on the grapevine, midwives are much sought after at the moment and you'd be welcome with open arms.
Most student midwives are already qualified RNs,
but (correct me if I'm wrong) some schools have a
'direct entry' programme for those who are not.

For years, nurses and midwives have been trained
under the auspices of a university, so university
entry qualifications are a prerequisite.

Part-time training is not, so far as I am aware, an
option in Britain.
