Hi,
I really want to study degree level nursing, but I need an A-Level in Biology. I am 18 and have already finished my A-Levels, so how can I study to get it? I live in Leicester if that helps,
Thanks in advance,
Fiona Morrison
The nearest institution offering an evening course in A-level Biology, according to HotCourses.com, is Loughborough College: http://www.hotcourses.com
However, HotCourses isn't infallible. If there's a course in your area, the Leicester Adult Skills & Learning Service should know about it. Contact them using this form: http://www.lasals.co.uk/ContactUs.html
I believe if your A level results are disappointing, you can study for an HND in applied biology at Leicester's De Montfort University, or study for advanced biomedical sciences. They offer all sorts of courses in that line, so maybe you'd find something suitable if you contacted them for a prospectus.
At fifteen hours a week, you could maybe study alongside a part-time job, and if that job were something like a health care assistant, it would demonstrate your commitment to the work. I know several nurses who have taken this route.
Hi one of my friends is doing nursing - she never did an a level in biology though, I think he did health and social care, not sure how that works though. What did you do in college?
You could do a foundation course in Applied Sciences. UWIC in Cardiff does one.
But I'd recommend considering starting a Nursing Diploma as you can get in without the A-Level. Students who get consistently high marks get automatically transferred onto the degree course.
