Hi, I have seen more and more scrap metal collectors in recent times and just wondered if it's possible to earn some extra cash doing this? What's the best to collect and do you need to find loads to get a return or will the scrappys just take whatever you have? How does the whole thing work?

There is man locally who collects aluminium cans (cokes etc) in a super-market trolley and sells to the local scrap yard. He's been doing it for years so it must be worth it.

You r expected to stamp on the cans to flatten them.
It is definately worth it, there is a big crackdown by the Police where I live over scrap metal thefts. They have also been raiding scrap yards and arresting owners who have been buying stolen scrap.

People have been stealing the grates from road drains, copper piping from inside empty houses (I live in a regeneration area where many houses are awaiting demolition), lead from roofs etc. I've had a combi-boiler stolen from my back yard amd door handles robbed off old doors in my yard.

There has even been one instance recently where some thieves put some official looking Hi-Viz jackets on and stealing cables from a hole in the road!

So there is definately money to be made although I'm not sure where a legitimate person would get scrap metal from as all the crooks are just stealing it!
