I am currently temping for a Bank as a project assistant, my workplace are usually really laid back to whenever we can take time off.

i struggled to take mon-tuesdays off this week because another guy is off mon-tues off too. i havent taken a break since January. whereas this guy have already taken three weeks off this year plus these two days.

i emailed my boss asking if i can take the rest of the week of because im feeling really depressed, he knows i suffer from depression. But i got an email back saying he would rather wnt me in work tomorrow as we are 3weeks behind. once we have caught up thats when i can take a break! .. henc towards Xmas!! im sick of it, im crying all the time and feeling really low. He expects me to do all the work because i am the only RELIABLE person in the team.
i am fuming.. the reason why we are behide work is because im doing twice the workload as this other colleage... does nothing, and never get anything right, i am constant correcting his mistakes, this has been going on for over a year now. he is always in late for work and spends most of his time making drinks and on the website. we all get paid the same. i dont understand why the boss not taking any actions.
its so unfair. i hate this job so much. i am struggling to find new job/career because i havent developed any new skills.

am i entitled to take a break, no matter how far behide the project is? if he reshuffled his staff then this wouldnt have happened. Going back to work will just make my Depression even worse, and the more likely i would just be moody all week.

You could go to your doctor and have them sign you off sick but if you're just taking annual leave then yes, your company can do this. I wouldn't let staff doing a similar or the same role take time off together, especially if they were behind with their work. It's why annual leave is authorised, so companies can check their work load and ensure adequate cover.

If you believe that you're behind that much due to your collegue then you need to document it and take the issue to your manager rather than stewing on it as you're doing yourself no favours and the manager should look in to the matter.

Thanks Chinadoll

i am only Temping.. usually we can take days off when ever as we only get paid by the hour.

The boss knows about this work colleage. he just laughs it off and have a few word with the colleage. But nothing else happens. i have already told him how i felt since November last year. He sacked our other colleage because he swore alot, but he did alot of work and in the right way. im just so stressed out and i am really annoyed. If we were behind work why was my colleage allowed to take a week off last two weeks ago?

sorrry i just want to take my steam out on here, *deep breath* got it out of my chest now!!
It sounds to me like your quite a big asset.

If it were me, I would present my feelings to my superior and threaten to leave.
