Any ideas - sensible ones please!!!

My hubby was made redundant on Friday, along with many others at the minute, and he is a bog standard welder, so there is no point him trying to find work in this field at the minute. We seem to think places like Tesco/Asda.etc may be the way to go but can anyone give me an idea of what the pay rates are. We are assuming they will be a bit higher than minimum wage, but not much more. Any other job ideas gratefully received. I've already gone through all the non starters! Selling his body, model, actor.ect. Cheers.

Well Mifta, you've already shattered his ego and self esteem by describing him as a 'bog standard' welder. Spread that about and he'll not even get a guvy job. All I can say is that a good friend of mine, a brickie, was made redundant about 5 months ago and has never looked back. He has not stopped work since. He never even got to 'sign on' and now employs a labourer. So if there is a chance of retraining ant the local job centre then bricklaying is not such a bad choice.
But descibe him as a quality tradesman in future.

hi in my profession welders take home around 1.2 k per week and you think thats 'bog standard'

we are always looking out for skilled workforce also. we need them so much we had polish and phillipinos on site as of the shortage.

Try your local City College,if he has a certificate, anything to say he is a coded or trained welder they may have a plce,even as a lectures assistant.
