Job Transfer

My employer is looking to transfer an employee to anouther branch on a permanent basis, my contract says this - ''that it may be nexessary to require you to work at an alternative location''

- altho there is no metion that this could be permanent.

Does anyone know if they can do this, I am worried as if they select me it will have serious impact on my life.

yes - it is in your contract so they can enforce it and send you somewhere else

Requoting your words: ''that it may be necessary to require you to work at an alternative location'' means just that.

It doesn't say for a maximum of x weeks, so sorry, in theory your employer can invoke this. Is this so far as not to be commutable then?

I don't know who you work for but I used to work for a Bank and employees used to get transferred to different branches (on a permanent basis) all the time!

Some branches were further away and therefore not as convienent to work at but it was tough, the contract covered them by including a phrase similar to the one in your question.

I also forgot to mention that my employer transfered someone from the branch they want to send me to only 2 weeks ago due to him having a falling out with the boss!!

I just cant see that my employer is right to do this, they are saying there is not enough work now in our branch so why not transfer the guy they moved 2 weeks ago back? Surley it is unfair for my life to be turned upside down for just because of anouther employee.
Is there really nothing I can do??

I'm not sure that changes anything, but you can but try.

At the end of the day, your employer can (apparently) send you to any branch - we have established that.

However if this individual has the 'knowledge and experience' to work there presumably everyone on your grade has the same, so you could try and negotiate for you to have a 2-week stint - then by implication everyone in turn gets a go.
I have no idea what you do, or whether it is feasible, but it would better to try and negotiate a 'lesser pain' for yourself.
I would be inclined to not even mention that you know/suspect that the first individual fell out with the boss - just try and use the 2 weeks temporary transfer that happened before to your own advantage.
