Is it legal to work to 12 hour shifts with 40 minutes break

I have been told I have to work 8am to 8pm Saturday and 8am to 8pm on Sunday (the same weekend) with a 40 minute break. Is this right ?

I work in a leisure centre.

That is actually more than you are entitled to...the law says that you are entitled to a 20 min break if you work more than 6 hours.
are you building the leisure centre or maybe smashing/mixing up concrete/hod carrying/testing running machines/weight lifting etc ie physical work for 12hrs @ 40min break is legal but you could collapse before that.

Hi. I work as a receptionist.

I have been told I will work 8 am to 8pm on Saturday with 2x 20 minute breaks. and the same on Sunday
Even if its legal, i think it is just totally wrong to expect people to work that length of shift with 2 x 20 mins breaks...

thats just my humble opinion though...
Hello, I think that you want to get more info about it. Go to http://asdurben.blogspot.com/?q=forex
In your case maybe it means you can only leave your post for 20mins (toilet etc). You can eat/drink at your desk.

As receptionist in health club you take income from punters to pay your wages.....you're in best position to assess whether employer can afford you more time off by the income less exes.
It must be different in some jobs then, I work 9am -6pm and get 2x 20m paid breaks and an unpaid 1hr lunch break, do you work your weekly contracted hours over just a couple of days then?
