The Writing School
2 Answers
Many years ago I enrolled at
The Writing School
29 Turnpike Lane
N8 0EP
For several reasons I was unable to complete the course, so wrote to ask if my (fully paid) fee could be put on hold.
In 1995 (!!!) I received an answer in the affirmative.
Sadly it has not been possible to take up the course until now, and I realise that, very probably, the School no longer exists.
However if anyone knows anything at all about it, whether it is still there, or even whether it has closed I would be glad to know. If so, I'll just recycle the materials.
I've tried the Writing School, Oxford, but it isn't them
Many thanks.

I strongly suspect that 'The Writing School', in London, has now become 'The Writers Bureau', in Manchester. Contact details are here:
http://www.writersbureau.com/contact-us.htm
That's based upon reading a far from complimentary article, which first appeared in The Spectator, about a certain Mr E H Metcalfe who seems to be behind both ventures:

Since you've already handed over your money it might be worth seeing if you can get anything from the Manchester address. Otherwise my advice would be not to touch it with a bargepole.
Your local further education college will run evening classes which, because of the company and feedback of others, will be far more useful (and much more fun) than anything that Mr E H Metcalfe can offer you.

My wife was in the exact same situation as you.
So I did a little investigating.
The company registration number for The Writing School in Turnpike Lane was 2511280 and its "parent" name was Nationwide Studies Ltd.
A search with Companies House reveals that this number is no longer valid. This suggests the company closed down.
Sorry.
