I am just trying to sort out my college application. I was initally interested in countryside management and abouriculture (like working with trees). I decided on countryside management but then found out that these jobs are hard to get and there are far more applicants than vacancies. Should I still do this course or go for the other one instead? Anyone got any advice?

That's pretty much the way of the world in so many jobs, i did a journalism course - but how many people do yiu reckon did one, and how many jobs are there? If you're good at what you do, get loads of work experience, get a good grade and work hard at getting the job there's no reason why you wouldn't get the job instead of anyone else. My friend is an actress (the job rates for the are probably worse) and she is forever saying that she will never give up her dream - don't give up on something that you really want to do - work harder to get it.

do you really need a degree to do this job, wouldn't you have a better chance of getting into this field if you spent the 3 years working hard / and voluntering for countryside  management organisations - i bet there is loads of opportunities to do that. For this type of work do you not think that experience will talk louder than essays about the importance of pine control (or something) ... vocational / practical training
