Since my divorce i have now started to use my maiden name again. My bank, building society and utility companies have all changed my name on their records. When i tried to move my mortgage to another company I have been told that I need a solicitor to change tmy name on the land registry document. Is this necessary? Can I do this myself with the land registry? Does anyone know how this should be done. thank you.

Telephone your local Land Registry - they really are extremely helpful.

I would post a link but the site seems to be having problems.

They are open usual office hours, so give them a call tomorrow.
By all means talk to your local District Land Registry office - the link is here - once you have recognised your Administrative Area click on Local Office to see full details. Deeds have been done away with for years now, it is the name on the Registration at the Land Registry that you seek to change.

However, if your mortgage company insists that it is done through a solicitor you will have to accept this, I'm afraid. It is to ensure that nobody takes unfair advantage of them. Cost around 200.
