He definately cannot do this. As mentioned in another post he must go through the legal channels to evict you and this must all be done in writing. Do not give into bullying, he could be in serious trouble if he carries out his treats. If i were you i would certainly look for another place to live because no landlord should speak to you in this manner. If he were a professional person he wouldnt even go down this avenue. Do as someone else has suggested, call the Police and advise them of the situation and should he return they will be straight round to assist you. Good Luck and hopefully you will find a nicer landlord (were not all nasty people)
You shouldn't be short of the rent then. Don't you appreciate, if you don't pay your rent on time, your landlord cannot pay the mortgage either. If you can't afford to pay the rent don't live in his property.
Sorry to sound unsympathetic, but I experience the same thing from some of my tenants. I'm not a millionaire, so being late with rent really puts me up s hit creek!
P.S
He cannot drag you out, unfortunately tenants have more rights than Landlords. You can just call the police. He needs an eviction order to remove you from the property.

Another thing i forgot to say on my answer was i take it that the property you rent is not handled through a Rental Agency hence him coming directly to you for the rent money. Another suggestion would be to deal with a Rental Agency next time as you then do no deal with the Landlord you deal with the Rental Agency which stops any potential threats being made directly to you. Not only does it cover you but the Landlord also. Ive never had a problem getting my rent as the Rental Agency pay me and collect it from my tennants so i have no dealing with them.
