i work on a monday to friday contract and work bank holidays as an option, have been told that december 28 will have to be booked off if you want it but i thought that as boxingday falls on a saturday then i would automatically get monday as my boxingday am i right or wrong /?

you see the company operates two different contracts and those people who work on saturday as their normal working week will be off saturday 26th and in work on the 28th, where as those that don't work saturday have been told that we need to book it if we want it off so it then turns out it's not a stat holiday is it ??but as with normal bank holiday working we have to book it off but but a long as one member of staff is in, but the rest of the company works ok on saturday when no one's in

but does that not constitute a change of contract when your contracts state that you are entitled to xmas day boxing day and new years day off ???

I don't think 26th Dec this year is a bank holiday as it falls on a Saturday. The bank holiday is the Monday 28th.
Some employers include BH as part of your statutary holiday entitlement. If it is then it gets taken off your yearly allowance. If not then as you are given the option to work or not do you get enhanced pay or other time off in lieu?
Not fully understanding your rules for this year I would be inclined to inform your employer (in writing) that you will not be working the 26th as it is not part of your contracted days of work or in your contract to do so and isn't even a BH. If you decide to work the Monday 28th is up to you I suppose but if you don't want to then tell them that you won't be available to work but will class it as part of your BH allowance (if that is how BH are worked out).
Whatever you decide then get in quick as if they need someone then if you get your request in last it could be you who works.
