Not attending a court hearing penalties.

I was charged with assault in Sydney Australia in 2010. I left the country after two adjourned hearings. I did not attend my final court hearing. Now I wish to return to Sydney for a wedding and want to know what would happen.(ie, would I get a arrested upon entry to the country?) I have to apply for a visa and I knw there is a question on there asking if u have been convicted/charged with anything. If I answer no would they be able tell? Basically would I be I. The system?

They may have issued a warrant for your arrest when you failed to attend court. The computer at the arrivals desk would probably show that.

As soon as they plug your name into their system for the visa expect alarm bells to go off whatever you answer.

you could always call the Oz embassy and ask them

Australia seems to be 'Hot' on stuff like this if the TV programs about Oz immigration and customs are anywhere near true. I would definately check with the Austalian High Commision in London ( or where ever you are)
If there is a warrent out for your arrest then you are definately going to be arrested as soon as you arrive in Oz .

There are statutes of limitations in every country. You may get a more concrete answer by looking up the laws that govern concerning the specific crime.
