Hello. Can anyone tell me what the likely sentence will be for someone who pleaded guilty at crown court on the day the trial was about to commence. He agreed to plead guilty to 1 x gbh with intent, 3 x abh section 47, 2 x false imprisonment, 1 x affray and 1 x threats to kill. He agreed to plead guilty if the victim agreed to allow 3 sample cases of rape to lay on file. The attacks were over a four year period. The victims physical injuries involved a broken arm, finger, hand, ribs, throat bruising, hair ripped out and many other grzes and bruising etc etc. Psychological injuries include 10 years of severe Post Traumatic Strss Disorder involving night terror attacks, anxiety attacks, attempted suiside on 3 occasions to to the constant perceived threat and fear of her attacker etc etc. The victim is now registered disabled. The attacker used a champagne bottle to attempt to kill on one occasion which was a flash attack. Another attack was premeditated and involved a claw hammer, a jig saw and plastic sheeting to dispose of the body and another involved a premeditated attack with mace spray and hours of physical and mental torture and threats to kill.
I obviously have my own idea of what justice should be for this monster. He was a 22 years serving senior prison officer who is claiming that the attacks took place when he himself was suffering from PTSD from things he had seen while he was a serving officer. He is to be sentenced on the 29th June and the courts are awaiting probation and psychiatric reports. He is actually on bail.
Anyone got any idea what the sentence will be.

GBH with intent carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. While the exact circumstances of the 'Section 18' offence alone might not meet the criteria for such a sentence, it's likely that (with such a catalogue of violence) the judge will want to pass the 'next best thing'. The judge also has a duty to protect society from the actions of the offender. With those points in mind, I can see no alternative to an 'IPP' sentence being given.

If you're unfamiliar with IPPs I'll refer you to the HM Prison Service website for an explanation:
http://www.hmprisonservice.gov.uk/adviceandsup port/prison_life/lifesentencedprisoners/

It's unlikely that the IPP tariff would be less than 8 years. It's more likely to be around 12 years. But, as explained in that link, the offender might remain in prison for substantially longer.
