Action to take after misdemeanor

I was in a club about 2 weeks ago and stupidly stole some drinks from an unmanned bar. I was caught by a member of staff, so exited the place quickly. My friend was held by the bouncers and gave my name and number to the police. A policeman phoned me recently asking to come in and answer some questions. What should I do? Admit my guilt and be at the mercy of the police, which may result in a penalty notice etc. However I am looking to pursue a career in law, and even a caution could go to lengths at preventing this. If I go in and offer 'no comment' to anything I am asked, this may run the risk of the matter being taken further. (Even thought this is ridiculous, as it was a silly mistake, which appears to be wasting police time)
