Not having owt to do with the law maybe I ought to resist answering, but that sort of problem hasn't stopped me before.
Granted I don't know the circumstances but I read someone who is violent enough to be guilty of actual bodily harm, and their victim wanting to claim she provoked him. Sounds to me that the victim has the opportunity to reconsider the choices they've made so far and maybe start a new life path that doesn't involve allowing themselves to be hit around, and maybe worse, for the rest of their life.
