Hi all,

I has my phone stolen yesterday, the police have found out who the culprit is and went to his house.

His dad called him and told him to get home which he refused.

I don't know what will happen now. If he is caught can I make sure they press charges against him? Can I take him to court where he can reimburse me for my phone?

Hope someone can help

TIA

The police will advise - did you not have insurance on your phone? You may find it's covered on your dad's household insurance (particularly as you have the police incident number). Try there first - it's a better bet than waiting for the culprit to cough up.

Morning Boxtops. I am claiming on my dads insurance but was just wondering if I could say I want to press charges and take him to court instead of the police just catching him and talking to him
How would you prove they took your phone? and if you have the sort of evidence that would prove it why haven't you given it to the police?

Such a long story that I really do not want to go into.

I called the police as soon as he took it. I also had his phone number and while I was with the police he text me mocking me, so upon police instructions I called him to which he hung up on me the police then called him but he turned his phone off but had activated voicemail which said his full name
Hahaha, silly thief

But if it's your dad's insurance, is your phone covered? And if you know where you're phone is it isn't lost, is it?

He could of got rid of it by the time he is caught.

Yes he is a stupid thief the police officers had a good chuckle at him.

I live with my parents so is my phone not covered under house hold insurance?

As per my question can I press charges against him?
A bit confusing maisie as you say that he texted you ('while I was with the police he text me'). Do you have a second phone?
Question Author
Yes I have 2 phones
Contents inusrance yes maisie, you confused me by saying it was your dad's insurance and I thought you meant moby phone ins.

You're right, he *could* get rid of it but as yet, you dont know he hasn't. I wouldn't want your dad to get into bother for claiming for something that isn't missing IYSWIM?

AFAIK it isn't you who press charges in any given situ but the CPS - you can claim civilly
ahem ... 'you dont know he has'
Question Author
Sorry to sound thick Oj but what does IYSWIM and AFAIK mean?
and to answer your question, it's not your decision whether he is prosecuted or not.
AFAIK is as far as I know
but am stumped on the other one :)

Update. Scumbag is bricking it and has been calling and texting me all day. He wants to pay for my phone and can I please call off the police.

Police are aware of all contact and are trying to make an arrest
Perhaps you should lie low until the thief is arrested.
why would he offer to pay for phone and not just send it back to you?
