The Managing Director of the company that I work for has accused me of having an affair with the Chairman - which is total rubbish. She has involved two members of staff already before even talking to me about it and my reputation is already in tatters. I know that she has made this up with two other members of junior staff. Can I do anything to clear my name and to make sure that she doesn't do this ever again. She has done it before to a work colleague who still lives under the shadow. I'm not prepared for this to happen to me. Thanks in advance for your answers.
Do you have an HR dept if so raise the complaint with them
If not and the MD is effectively your line manager it would be better to raise it at board level via the secretary to the board perhaps, Talk to someone on the ACAS helpline for the best advice
Thanks chaps!
No the chairman has no idea - he is overseas on business and out of contact for now.
Yes, I believe she is jealous!
No grievance policy in place - she is the person to approach if you have an issue..................

We are a tiny company - so apart from MD I'm one of the senior members of staff. Will contact ACAS for information. Cheers for your assistance guys and gals :)
Slander is a defamatory statement by means of the spoken word it is usually only actionable on proof that the slander has caused special damage into which a lack of chastity in a woman may fall. If you are serious contact a local solicitor and have a letter written to the person who initiated these comments explaining the position and the possible action.
