What is the legal age of a child for a parent not to be liable for their actions in a car. I was reversing into a car park space when the child in the next car jumped out and I hit the car door without having chance to stop. the mother is now putting a claim in to say I ran over the child's foot which is not the case. at what age is the child responsible for his/her actions in a car and when is the parent responsible?
claim for personal injury, no police nor ambulance called and parent even walked off with child and he seemed fine. It is now with the insurers and they are not a lot of help.
It is an offence to cause or permit the door of a car to be opened which injures or endangers any person, the offence may be committed by the driver or passenger, parents may be liable for “permitting” the offence if they know a child is about to open a door.
