I sold my Mum's house and had her living with me for 5 years before she sadly died. I did see a Solicitor about how I would stand if my Mum had to go into a home and we had spent some of her money, which we did as she helped me buy a new car so that we could travel more comfortably and we also built a big conservatory on the back of my small house to give us more room which Mum paid for. I was told by the Solicitor that if she at any time had to go full time into a residential home and her money ran out then any monies we had used from her account would be liable by me. However, in this instance, they would probably take a charge on my house and if I sold it or died they would then be paid. You really should go and see a Solicitor about this to see where you stand, as there may come a time when you cannot manage and she has to go into a home. It will be well worth the money for peace of mind. Good luck.
