Obtaining Will From Solicitor

My mother died three months ago and I now feel able to sort out her affairs and follow the wishes expressed in her will.
I have approached her solicitor and he is insisting that all three named executors attend his office to retrieve the will. The problem with this is that one of them lives some distance away and for some time has been reluctant to leave her house and loses confidence if not in familiar surroundings.
Before I see the solicitor again could anyone advise if his insistence on us all attending is correct or would two of us attending suffice.

I think that request is nonsense, and it didn't happen to me when I dealt with a family will (I was one of two executors, with the other living abroad).
The solicitor just released me the original will, on my signing of a simple release authority request that he drew up.

I agree with BM - never had any difficulty retrieving a will as long as I had the death certificate and signed a release authority.

I suspect that the solicitor may be planning a bit of a 'hard sell' for his own services in administering the will and this will be easier if he has three targets to work on .... (but then I'm just an old cynic when it comes to lawyers).

I agree with the others. I have never heard of such a thing. If he does insist, then ask those that can't intend to send a letter to the solicitor giving you permission to collect the will.

Pauln....Don't let the solicitor push you into anything and don't let him try to make you let him do the probate. It will cost a fortune and is easy for you to do.
I can see no reason why all executors have to be there......I went alone for my OH's will. I had pressure to let the solicitors deal with everything but I stood my ground.

Why don't you get the third executor to write a letter authorising the other two of you to collect the will? You might also ask the solicitor why he is insisting on this.

Just to update you. I visited the solicitor today and he still insisted that all executors should attend,although when I mentioned my sister who is not able to travel,they did concede that a letter from her would suffice.

Their reasons for this action,security,if they released the will to one person it might get destroyed.
