When I split from my children's dad 11 yrs ago as we weren't married he had to apply for parental responsibility. Is that still the case now or have things changed?

Things changed from Dec 2003
If the father is on the birth cert, he has as many rights as the mother
Doesnt always work in practise though. My husband has parental responsibility for his daughter and it has got him nowhere.
really? Because you've prevented it? Or for other reasons?
Because Ive prevented it?? Its not my daughter lol. He has a child with his ex. The PR agreement isnt worth the paper its written on.
Hi ojread- I read it that smowball is talking about her husband's daughter from his previous marriage, but I may be wrong
Yep you're right factor : )

I think it depends on where you live and how strict your courts are in enforcing certain things.
Any child born after 2003 the father (or the person) named on the BC has parental responsibility.

It only matters to parents that care though.
LOL, sorry Smo, don't come here often enough to know your story :)

The Childrens Act defines Parental Responsibility as “all the rights, duties, powers & responsibilities which by law a parent of a child has”. A Mother has PR by right a Father does if he was married to the Mother at birth or if the child was born after 01-12-2003 and his name was on the birth certificate as Father or he can make an agreement with the Mother or apply to the Court for PR.
