My Neighbour's Mail

Since I have retired and am at home for most of the days, my neighbour who lives across the road has been sending her bulky mail/parcels to my address.

It is now getting infuriating and has been going on since summer and she orders a lot from amazon.

My question is, her name is on the parcels but my address, am I legally entitled to give her mail to her. We have a couple of parcels here at the moment and my husband is determined to give them to her after xmas.

There is no mistake regarding house numbers as our houses have names.

What would you do???

Agreed, but that doesn't come under any PO Act, they were finished with it the moment she accepted delivery of it.

it may stand to reason but not up to the Theft Act 1968
- no intention permanently to deprive - ergo
she could of course hand them over later ....

dalaying is not covered - that is only during transmission and this lot would be deemed to be delivered ... honestly I have been there

I take in parcels for both my neighbours who work, but I offered to do so. A friend gets parcels for him, but using my address. That I am happy with as he can't be home when they try and deliver. I just let him know there is something and he comes and picks it up.

In your case Sharon, this lady is taking liberties using your address. I would make sure she knows that you will not take any more in for her.

Thanks Marvel and everyone. Yes she is taking liberties, if she had asked in the first place I wouldn't have minded.
As the threat of prison looms over me...... tonight all parcels going back.

Update: Hermes delivery man called this morning and I said this person does not live here. I did not enlighten him any further.
Had discussion with neighbour last night and she was rather put out, saying
"I thought you wouldn't mind" Like heck do I mind.

In my humble opinion.
I do not think that there is any threat of prison or being accused of wilfully holding on to parcels, given that the neighbour in question put the address of SharonA on the parcels. This is a clear intent that she wants the post delivered to this address and must be a different situation to that of a neighbour accepting post that has a different address listed on it.
If you did decide to continue to accept parcels, this neighbour knows that she has addressed them to your property and I would have thought it must be her responsibility to pick them up from you, without you having to go to the trouble of taking them over to her.
If this was me, I would simply put a note through the door informing her that in future it is her responsibility to with you for delivery and to pick up all future parcels that have been delivered to your house with her name on them.

With items fulfilled by Amazon,there is often the option to have parcels delivered either to a local post office,or to a Hermes or other pick up point. Maybe suggest this to her.

simply refuse to take the parcels! if you accept them and the don't give them to her, that is theft. but i refuse to take one of my neighbour's parrcels, while the other's is fine. i don't accept post for anyone i don't know, end of. you have been making a rod for your own back by allowing her to do it!
