It is becoming rarer for maintenance to be paid to an ex wife/husband unless there is a huge disparity in income and one was financially dependent on the other. When they only lived together for a year it is highly unlikely miantenance would be awarded:
"If the marriage or civil partnership is short (typically, less than five years), it may not be paid at all or only for a short period through what’s called a ‘term order’. But where a couple has been together for a long time, or where an ex-partner doesn’t have a job, it can be paid for life.
In legal language, it’s on a ‘joint lives’ basis, which means either until the person paying maintenance or the one receiving it dies. However, spousal maintenance on a joint lives basis is increasingly rare."

In most cases, where a couple without children divorce it is far better all round for a clean break settlement in my view. It is not healthy for one to be dependent on the other for their income.
