My mother passed away a couple of weeks ago.
We were estranged, and I am not in touch with either of my two older sisters, so I did not attend her funeral.
How can I be sure that I receive anything my mother left to me in her will - I do not trust my sisters to do the right thing.

there is quite a lot you can do to be honest
besides writing to your sisters
are you sure she had a will ?
never mind - to distribute the estate of any size the execs whoever they are will need to go thro probate
and they have to apply to the nearest probate office to where mum died
and by paying a fee and contacting them you can hire the probate court to tell you when probate has been granted
worked for me - clearly I am not the one who died
and after that you can get a copy of the will - from them
( but not before surprisingly )
if you are a residual beneficiary
then you have a right to a final account ( when everything has been distributed)
( but not if you have just been left a pot or two )
( but not before surprisingly )
