What Are Your Views On The Death Penalty ?(As The 'last Meal' Question Has Gone Off Topic)
As the 'Final Meal' question has gone 'off topic' I am taking the opportunity to ask the question.
I will restate my view that it can never be justified no matter what the circumstances.

I have worked in an Open Prison education department and talked to many murderers. They are exactly the same as you and me.
One man I knew well was abused physically, verbally and emotionally for years by his wife until one day it was too much,he 'lost it' and hit her, she fell and hit her head on a concrete step and died. Others have similar stories. Would you want them locked up for life for one mistake?
Of course the dangerous ones will never be in an open jail. Conditions for Cat D, the lowest risk prisoners, who are the only ones who can serve time in an open jail are very strict, and just one breach of the rules means transfer back to a closed jail.

It represents the ultimate "revenge" type of punishment and, in my view, therefore possesses no merit among those who want to avoid kneejerk solutions to a difficult dilemma: What do you do in the face of cases of deliberate barbarity ? I would never want to be party to any aspect of a decision to execute someone, nor would I ever condone such a decision and far less the carrying out of it.
Ive served time with prisoners who have killed (murder/manslaughter). One guy who sticks out in my mind was a con I knew in Walton prison who was awaiting a transfer to Ashworth High Security Hospital. He was sexually abused as a child and grew up with multiple mental health issues. He eventually tracked down 2 of his abusers and killed them.
No one can tell me that this guy deserved the death penalty. Personally I think he should have been given a medal for ridding the Earth of a couple of cockroaches.

Well, I say the sooner we bring back the death penalty the better.
Why should murderers languish in prison ,being fed ,clothed and looked after for the rest of their days ? What about the families of their victims who have to go through a lifetime of sadness and grief.
In a few weeks time there is to be a TV programme about Ian Huntley and the Soham murders. Two ten year old girls had their lives cut short by that monster. Just spare a thought for them. And before anyone says that to kill a murderer makes me as bad as them ,I don't agree . They kill innocent people but I would be killing a murdering b++++++.As for the method for carrying out the death penalty, why can't they be given the same cocktail of drugs that Dignitas administer.

The debate on whether the UK should bring back the death penalty has gone on for years. I remember many years ago in the run up to a general election the candidates in my home town were asked if they supported bringing capital punishment back. One summed up his view by saying that if he was elected MP he would not like the job of calling on a mother to say to her "I'm sorry. Your son was innocent after all. He was hung by mistake."
Ssmuraisan, "State crime lab analyst Kathryn Troyer was running tests on Arizona's DNA database when she stumbled across two felons with remarkably similar genetic profiles.
The men matched at nine of the 13 locations on chromosomes, or loci, commonly used to distinguish people.
The FBI estimated the odds of unrelated people sharing those genetic markers to be as remote as 1 in 113 billion. But the mug shots of the two felons suggested that they were not related: One was black, the other white."
DNA evidence is not foolproof yet you're happy for folk not only to be hanged but also drawn and quartered based on its use.

"Gisela Allen, UKIP’s candidate for the Garscadden/Scotstounhill ward in the Glasgow Council elections, has come out in favour of reintroducing the death penalty, but has suggested an alternative to hanging.
Speaking to The Clydebank Post , Allen said “It doesn’t necessarily have to be hanging. You could have the guillotine. I think the public is entitled to protection.”
She also said "I would support riding stables - it's very important children work with horses and ride horses."
So then, the guillotine to be introduced and support to be given to wee ones riding horses because it's very important.
Makes me wonder how mad were the ones who didn't get past the selection process...

andres, Dignitas can only mix the drug and hand it to the patient who has to hold it and then swallow it of his /her own free will without help, it is suicide not the death penalty.
Jackdaw, as I am sure you know , more than one of those for whom
G W Bush signed the death penalty have been proved innocent.Do you seriously believe any Judge would say 'No I'm not sure he is guilty' when asked about his verdict?
Baza, It is sending to prison and the consequent loss of freedom and separation from family and the rest of the world that is the punishment not the conditions in the jail. Harsh prison conditions just make it harder for the staff who have to put up with the increased abuse and danger of attack. They have a terrible job are understaffed and feel unappreciated anyway.
Samuraisun DNA can NOT prove guilt, it only proves someone's DNA was present, not that they did the crime. There have been many cases where a crime scene was intentionally or accidently contaminated. Including by the perpetrator using someone else's blood to establish an alibi!
trt, One man's terrorist is someone else's freedom fighter. Multi murderers like Ian Huntley, get a 'whole life tariff' so they will die in jail.

Mikey, ive served time in prison, EDDIE has worked in prison. Two different first hand perspectives, we have both said on multiple occasions on here that prisons are far from been holiday camps and yet people who have never set foot inside a jail continue to parrot the media view that jails are luxurious 5 star hotels.

I have had experience of Wakefield Prison and the high dependency psychiatric unit just outside Liverpool...Maghull I think.
The former was no holiday camp and to me at that time, I felt that prison must have been the ultimate deterrent......IT isn't.
The latter was more of a Psychiatric Hospital and really was ...comfortable. Snooker tables, TV mobile phones....BUT confined and no privacy,
