As the 'Final Meal' question has gone 'off topic' I am taking the opportunity to ask the question.
I will restate my view that it can never be justified no matter what the circumstances.

agree. If you're against the taking of human life, you're against the taking of human life
I agree with you Eddie.
Totally opposed to it.
I'm a fence sitter on this issue. The biggest part of me believes it is wrong, but, if someone hurt one of mine, I don't know which side of the fence I'd fall over.
I agree but I do understand why people feel so strongly about it.
Unchanged from last time. I do not consider murder a fitting punishment.
no I do not agree with death sentence, but a life sentence for premeditated heinous killing should be full life !
It depends on the crime. I have no objection to taking a human life if the circumstances warrant it.
For child killers and animal abusers, yes and I'm not going to justify my views to anyone.
Perhaps it could be an option for the guilty person to choose, rather than life imprisonment.
Its not just the “if you are against killing, you are against killing” which I do absolutely agree with, but also what if the guilty judgement is wrong?
So what is the alternative?
Life imprisonment.
15 years on a team of "Psychiatrists" deem him/her no longer a threat to society and he/she is released.
What penalty is that.
The death sentence should be retained.
I am against it *but* a Life sentence should mean just that.
life long imprisonment for terrorists, those committing such barbaric crimes as murder in first degree should never come out.
I want to say i agree that hanging is barbarous, and it is, and should play no part in modern Britain, but there
are times when my reasoning goes out the window.
when i hear of paedophiles, child killers my blood runs cold and i want revenge not justice, which goes against all my principles.
i would ultimately say no to hanging i guess.....
Against.
I can't remember where I heard/saw it but the phrase 'You cant kill people who kill people,to show people that killing people is wrong'has always stuck with me.
I am against the death penalty, basically because some 'innocent' people have been found not guilty afterwards. However, I do believe in a life sentence to mean exactly that, until dead.

jackthehat as I have had to point out many times on here once you are sentenced to 'life' you can ONLY be released 'conditionally' a lifer can never be free. They are only ever released 'on licence' the release license has conditions if any of the conditions are broken the offender can be recalled to jail without another court hearing. So in this sense life does mean life.
When a judge passes a life sentence he/she must also specify the tariff, this is the minimum time that must be served before the offender can begin the process of applying to the parole board for release,it is NOT the date the offender will be released ,again as I have had to explain on here many times.
In fact it can be years from the tariff date until a decision is made by the parole board and then it can be 'no release'.
There is no justification for taking a human life ever!!
A Life sentence should mean a life spent behind bars....
When I suggested allowing the guilty person to choose I had a particular case in mind.

Walter Clayton was advised to plead diminished responsiblity but said that he had done the deed and deserved to hang. He pleaded "guilty" which made it the shortest murder trial.
