Further to my first question about the CRB certificate, it got me thinking how the likes of The little Bulger boys, murderers, who have had a change of identity, would they get a clear record, surely not!

Eddie has it right as usual.....pmsl.
I would suggest that Mikey's tongue is firmly stuffed in his cheek at that comment!!
Islay, the murderers of the Bulgar boy Venables and Thompson have total new IDs, NOTHING that could identify them is permitted.
So they would have nothing on a CRB check.
However each of them is assigned a 'minder' a senior MI5 officer NOT police. This 'minder' is tasked with looking after them and giving advice, they have to notify him or her if they are going to do anything different or unusual like applying for a job, moving home or going away. The minder would not allow them to apply for a job that was not considered suitable, so the possibility of one of them getting a job involving vulnerable people could never arise.
Bu they can apply for jobs and they can give away their identities Eddie.
Believe me if they wanted to they could. The point is that crimes committed under the age of 16 do show up on DBS checks despite you saying they didn't!
A Senior MI5 Officer EDDIE, really? I find that hard to believe.
Eddie is full of it. Next he'll be telling us he use to work in the field because, jeez, he 's worked everywhere else...!

It will be police that are assigned to keep an eye on them not MI5!
^ Yes the 'ID protection' service is run by Military Intelligence and the Home office,it is separate from the police.
It is the same system that is used to protect people such as Spies who have defected from their own intelligence service and are under threat of assassination or Mafia / Gangland informers who are being hunted as a 'grass'. They even get birth certificates in their new names. ( No. I don't know how it's done, but it is)
It must cost £100,000s or even more. It is vital that their real identity never is revealed as if it was there would be hundreds of vigilantes after them which would be impossible to 'police', One man was incorrectly identified as being being Thompson and committed suicide after being targeted by vigilantes!
The new ID program is as much to protect the public from being incorrectly identified as for the subjects own benefit.
You may be getting confused with the 'witness protection service' which IS run by the police. The witness protection service is to protect witnesses from threat and intimidation while they are giving evidence against dangerous criminals who would harm them if they got a chance. It does not involve a change of ID, just keeping them safe until the trial is over and the criminals are safely behind bars.
Oh I don't think I am the one getting confused but thank you, I will be sure to relay that to my colleagues when I have finished laughing!
Details of the Witness protection scheme here.

It mentions Venables and Thompson.
As I said it is run by the Ministry of Justice which is a nationwide service run directly by government, NOT the police! . Police forces only cover their own area so if the Police ran it a new Police force would have to take over any time the person protected moved house (which happens often)
Right I got a bit annoyed with this thread and I happened to be chatting with a colleague who knows this stuff.

MI5 are NOT involved.
The probation and police service are.
They will never get a job with children.
Next.....

That's all I am saying.
From your link EDDIE //From the moment they begin their new lives, they have contact with only a handful of police officers, including a designated local handler.\\

No mention of MI5.
^ OK but the point I was trying to make is that as they have a totally new ID, a CRB check would be clear as it in the new name. A CRB check made in their original name WOULD show unspent convictions. However their 'Minder' would never allow them to apply for a job that needed an enhanced CRB. So the answer to fruitsalad's question is that they do get a clear record but ONLY in their new ID and they would never be allowed to apply for a job involving children or vulnerable people.
Eddie...you're wrong...again!!
How am I wrong? If your previous real criminal name was Bert Smith and your new 'clean' ID is Fred Jones how could a CRB check in the name of Bert Smith show the record for Fred Jones? The new ID is a total change with NO possible way to identify your previous life or name , you even get a birth certificate in the new name and a complete life history is created for you which checks out under any investigation!
Read my link for confirmation!
