I am 67, ex armed forces and live in 'sheltered accommodation' there are 29 separate flats within the block. This morning I received a letter measuring 9" x 7". In the main address clear window was written "The Legal Occupier" blah, blah, blah....." below this address window was another clear window measuring 7" x 3/4". In this clear window was printed in bold red letters
"Local investigation active in 'postcode.' Investigation into what? I know, (as do we all who are not prepared to be browbeaten or threatened by the B.B.C./Licence Bullies.), and that is my business, no one else's. But now EVERYONE else knows I am under 'active investigation' for SOMETHING? The postman, my neighbours, Tom, Dick, Harry and Phyllis our block cleaner. ALL are aware that I am a miscreant, or think I am. I am bloody furious. Can I take action on this? I so what? Any help really appreciated please. 'Dylanfanatic.

I found this link which, although dated 2013, which suggests it may be something to do with TV Licence evasion?

Presumably, others in the same postcode will have received one similar?
Who was the letter actually from and was it based on fact?
as if everyone is going to be interested enough to read your envelopes. If someone else in you accommodation had received it, would you have read it or even ha a chance to? I dont get how or why your post is shown round to 28 flats before it gets to you.

if you want to know what the investigation is into, simply open your letter and see.
Do they only send these letters in these particular size envelopes,to 67 year olds? Or maybe everyone has had one.
Have you told them you are ex-armed forces? maybe they wouldn't have sent it if they'd known?
Do you have a licence and if not should you have one? If you don't have one it's usually pretty easy to clear the matter up. My son doesn't have a TV or a licence or use I player and he has simply signed a declaration when necessary and that has been the end of the matter
You may want to check whether Tom, Dick and Harry (and maybe Phyllis and the postman) also got one- t probably went to several or all of the flats if there are far fewer licences than flats. If it was targeted at just you it would have your name on I think
I presume your post is left somewhere central to collect rather than comes through your door?

I doubt anyone else is remotely interested if they did happen to see the front of the envelope.
I don't know how it works but i think it's unlikely the passport office will want to hold copies of everyone's pictures who may or may not apply- more likely the passport office will just pick yours up from Max Speillman's records once you give them permission
Ignore this- I'd just moved onto a new thread about Passports. Weird. And it tried to put the same answer into a crossword thread!
Hi- I wondered if there have been any developments on this. Have you heard further from those responsible (BBC licence enforcers?) or have you sent in a complaint?
