She told me that she was given a tresspassing document and told not to go back in any of their shops. When I asked what happened she said that she had been to the hairdressers and been in there 2 hours and had had nothing to eat. Wrongly she picked up some fruit meaning to go to the till and pay for it and forgot and started eating it. She is in here late 80's and gets confused at times. They took her to an office and questioned her, said they wouldnt call the police. She is very shaken up. They got her details and got her to sign a paper saying she was tresspassing in M and S. They said it would go no further but she said how will they know her will they have taken a photo ?
I think a family member or appointed representative should initiate a formal complaint, citing cognitive impairment and explaining the level of distress and anguish it has not only caused your neighbour but her close loved ones too.
Disgraceful behaviour like theirs should not go unchallenged.
I agree. I'm glad they didn't call the police - they wouldn't have been bothered with it anyway - but M&S should have let it go altogether. What do they think she's going to do? Come in and pinch an apple every day?
Agree with NOM..... Surely they should take age and state of mind into consideration? If I were her family I would definitely make a formal complaint. Awful treatment for a lady of that age IMO.
I agree with a family member asking to speak, on her behalf, to the manager.....
Might be worth pointing out too how Sainsbury's helps folk who are confused........supporting the lady with dementia to work for them for as long as possible.....x
This really doesn't sound like M and S. Is there any chance your neighbour has done something similar in there before? You mentioned that she gets 'confused at times' - perhaps she'd acted oddly on a previous visit.
I would have thought that somebody from the store would have rung a family member. A member of their management must have been involved. This really doesn't sound like M&S at all.
Amazing, Ant Mcwhatshisname can't use what's going on in his life as an excuse ( please note, I do not support him at all ) but this little old Lady can, how odd.
