When someone dies without a will and has 4 biological children to 3 different mothers , ages 43,38 and my 2 of 15 and 16. If the 43 yr was adopted by her mums husband and the same with the 38 yr old with his mum ,do they legally inherit the same or is it beacause they were adopted by their mothers husband they no longer have a claim to the estate! Which does involve a property,my children’s other home. Neither 1st or 2 nd child had contact till recently.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

If a child is adopted they are sadly disbarred from inheriting when someone dies intestate.
The 43yo and the 38yo don't inherit. (They are now legally the children of their adoptive parents). The 15yo & 16yo inherit in equal portions (with their inheritances held in trust until they become adults) unless the deceased male had a spouse (or civil partner) at the time of his death.

Thank you both for replying to my post! I really appreciate it . Your answers have helped me in a difficult time .
I note from your other threads that this is a hypothetical question as you don't know whether they were legally adopted.

not sad - it is how the system was designed to work. Adoption ends the rights from the 'old' family and gives the adopted child full rights in his new family.
( so long as it was not a gypsy adoption where the child is passed over the back fence and silver passes hands - the only thing taken is a little cotton shawl with the letter JS embroidered ...a dog howls mournfully over the hill)

and yeah as Chris implies - all this could have been solved/avoided/ made clear by writing a will
